Scheme 1 Painting and Drawing


    Year 8 – Painting and Drawing

     Modern Artwork –Walking in their Shoes.

Students must complete all of the following tasks during the Unit of Work.

 

·         Each Exercise will be Assessed.

Aim: Students are on a self-directed program that allows and encourages expression through a range of drawing & painting activities. Students will produce a series of lead-up drawings and media experiments which will be developed into a final painting.

Q3.Does Art have to have meaning?

Q4.Must an Artist have refined skills?

 

Understandings:

U1.Students will understand that all cultures create artwork that has characteristics specific to that culture/environment/technologies/beliefs.

U2. Students will further their knowledge of drawing and painting styles and techniques..

U3.Students will learn how artists create the illusion of realism through the modeling of a form in a field of light.

U4.Students will understand that artists have differing styles, which represents the personal nature of Art making and experimentation.

U5.Students will learn to use a Creative/Enquiry Cycle to develop their understanding of their own work process.

 

Over the 8 Weeks students will be required to perform 4 Performance Tasks.

Task 1: Creative Cycle Introduction/Analysis of a Modern Artwork.

Students will be introduced to a body of modern artworks. The class will be lead through the analysis process and shown how to process a work. Discussion and Group Presentation. Groups of two will compare and contrast two works of art in front of the class.(10 minutes per group)

Formative / Journal

Students must document the Creative Cycle approach to making an Artwork. Steps include learning the Creative Cycle and being lead through the procedural steps. Production of a final work that follows the guides given to students. Students must provide evidence of completing each step.

 

Task 2 :Copy a Modern Artwork.

Students will copy an artwork of their choice. Producing a drawing and a colour study.

 

Assessment

Copy a Modern Artwork -Walking in their shoes!

Formative Assessment

Students will make a preliminary sketch of a chosen modern master work and a finished colour study.

 

Task 3 :Drawing what we see through Observation.

Process:Creating a series of drawings that resemble as closely as possible (realistically) the subjects that we draw.

Starting with 3 dimensional shapes, then progressing to more complex everyday objects.

Skills to achieve:

   Control of the media -pencils, pen and ink,oil pastels.

   True perspective, dept of field.

   Good proportion.

   Rendering of Light and Shadow.

   Realistic Colour.

Remember to evaluate each skill as you work.

Assessment

Drawing what we see through Observation.

Summative /Visual Arts Project

Students will develop their ability to draw form and use shadow and light in their drawings. Goal is realism.

 

Task4 :Make a Modern Artwork based on what we have done and learnt so far.

Free Choice as to subject matter and style. Assessed on leadup- work and standard painting rubric.

Summative /Visual Arts Project

Students will use all of the Units experiences to produce a free choice Painting on Canvas.
